Feliz Marzo!

Hello everyone! This week went by too fast honestly. Kinda overwhelming to be honest. We also started the month of March, I can’t believe it. Too much happened this week, where to begin?

The City of Iquitos had a strike, or a riot thing (un paro) this week. Basically because everything is just too dang expensive here, and they’ve had enough of it. So they went from midnight Tuesday until 8 pmish Wednesday. Interesting. A member of the bishopric in our ward is a reporter, and he went and reported on it. The members name is Dennis, he's the gordito (big guy) in the pic I sent. He's awesome. He knows just enough English to communicate with us. He served his mission in Mexico so he always calls me “guey” hahah. Last Sunday he greeted me as “el hijo de presidente trump, elder trump”. So now that’s the big joke between the offices and a couple members of the ward.

As you can see in the pictures, we found a little neighborhood that floats on the water. We went and checked it out.

The next day we had to take packages to the airport (the airport is pretty much the post office) when coming back from the airport we saw a huge house fire.

While our other companions were there, Elder Chavez (from Lima), felllllll into the water. And Elder Macz just happened to have his camera out, and caught it all on film. The video is about the funniest thing I've seen on my mission. We felt bad for him, but now we all joke about it.

For the Office fans, it was like when Michael fell into the little pond during the business meeting. That little neighborhood is quite interesting. This area is one of the more diverse ones I've been in. What does that mean? I mean that there are many rich homes (casas pitucas) and many people digging through garbage bags just hoping to find a bit of food to eat. It is very humbling for sure. Many times we take for granted living in the United States.
I found a new Hymn that I really love. Dear to the Heart of the Shephard. The Spanish translation is pretty solid as well.
Dear to the heart of the Shepherd,
Dear are the sheep of his fold;
Dear is the love that he gives them,
Dearer than silver or gold.
Dear to the heart of the Shepherd,
Dear are his "other" lost sheep;
Over the mountains he follows,
Over the waters so deep.
The song I uploaded to my google drive is one we have on the mission playlist. It tells the story of the Crucifixion from the point of view of some of the people who were present. It really opened my eyes, and gave a different point of view on it. I hope you can find that all as well!
We are officially finishing the transfer tomorrow, so that means Monday and Tuesday will be nuts. We will also be saying farewell to Elder Ruiz this week. His time as AP has officially ended.  The next transfer in April, well be getting a ton of new missionaries. So I think it will be time to open some new zones, which means spending lots of money on houses and furniture….. fun stuff.
Another thought I had this week . . . We don't realize how blessed we are having 18 temples in the state. Let alone 3 just in our valley. I would do almost anything to get to a temple lately. The members too.
Happy March!
